Many come to the Space Coast with warm sun and miles of beaches on their minds. And while Brevard County with its warm climate, cool breezes and sparkling ocean is a geographical gem, there is so much more to discover.
With an average yearly high temperature of 81 degrees and an average low temperature of 63 degrees, every day is a great day for outdoor recreation. Brevard has every leisure activity imaginable.
Brevard County is also home to a number of community theaters offering diverse entertainment throughout the year. Many nationally known visual artists live on the peaceful Space Coast where art galleries and juried art shows are plentiful.

The art of technology is perhaps Brevard’s greatest achievement with Kennedy Space Center, located at the north end of Brevard County. The Space Coast benefits from the magic of space exploration.

BEACHSIDE COMMUNITIES

Travel east on one of Brevard’s five causeways over the sparkling Intracoastal Waterway and you will find yourself “beachside.”

While the mainland offers a vibrant city atmosphere, Brevard’s beachside communities suggest a quiet and easy-going lifestyle.

Seventy-two miles of Atlantic Ocean connect Brevard’s beach towns. You can camp at Jetty Park in Cape Canaveral or search for sea turtles in Melbourne Beach.
Enjoy lunch and a cool drink at any one of the many oceanfront decks in between.

A drive along A1A through Brevard’s colorful beachside towns is the best way to learn and discover what the locals know…paradise found is eastward bound.

Cocoa Beach

Situated on a barrier island between the Banana River Lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean, Cocoa Beach is the perfect place for residents and visitors to have some fun in the sun. For many in Cocoa Beach, fun in the sun means surfing waves and frolicking on the beach.

This sun-splashed city is well known for its great surfing and world champion surfers like Kelly Slater who grew up in, and still calls Cocoa Beach home.
The Cocoa Beach Pier is a favorite destination for all beach lovers. The pier stretches 842 feet out over the Atlantic Ocean and has restaurants, bars, shops and a fantastic view of the ocean. Many festivals and activities are held at the Pier year-round. In addition to beach activities, the Cocoa Beach Country Club welcomes residents and visitors to enjoy golf, tennis and many more year-round activities. The Banana River Lagoon that attracts waterfowl, turtles, raccoons, dolphins, alligators and a variety of other species borders the country club on three sides. This public facility is a true wildlife habitat.

Cape Canaveral

If you want the best seat in the house for a rocket launch, Cape Canaveral is the spot. The city became famous with the first rocket launch from Cape Canaveral on July 24, 1950. Space-related operations and the city’s popularity expanded rapidly during the next ten years.
The arrival of NASA in 1959 made Cape Canaveral “the” place to be. The cruise port is thriving, recently adding the largest Royal Caribbean cruise ship as a resident. Today the “Cape” is still home to Kennedy Space Center, but a quiet community of beach residents enjoy the small-town atmosphere where many locally-owned shops and restaurants still thrive.

Satellite Beach

A wonderful place to raise a family, Satellite Beach has a great deal of beautiful and affordable homes, A-rated schools and one of the lowest crime rates in the state of Florida.

Satellite Beach has its own Library, Movie Theater, Post Office, Fire Department and a 37,000 square foot recreation center.
Satellite Beach is a conscientious beachside city where residents routinely contribute thousands of volunteer hours to improve and preserve the quality of life the community is so well known for.

Satellite High, Delaura Middle and Sea Park Elementary are all A-rated schools. Satellite Beach celebrated its 60th birthday in 2017.

Indian Harbour Beach

Indian Harbour Beach is Indialantic’s neighbor to the north. Indian Harbour has more than twice as many residents than Indialantic yet still maintains a small town atmosphere.

Three large parks along the ocean give residents plenty of room to picnic on the beach and play in the ocean.
Shopping and dining options include a mix of locally owned restaurants and shops throughout the city and larger department stores and chain restaurants on busy Eau Gallie Boulevard.

Indian Harbour Beach families have many quality options in education as first rate private, parochial and public schools attract highly qualified and dedicated teachers.

Recently, Indian Harbour Beach became the first NOAA tsunami-ready city in the United States.

Indialantic

Indialantic is a quaint community comprised of lovely single-family homes, A-rated schools, hip surf shops and trendy cafes. About 2,900 families, retirees and students call Indialantic home.

Many professionals choose to live in Indialantic for its tranquility, upscale neighborhoods, A-rated schools and overall quality of living.
Enjoying the outdoors in Indialantic is easy, as the city has over a dozen pristine parks and plenty of beach access. Stroll down 5th Avenue and enjoy a casual meal at the Beachside Café or an exquisite dinner at Andiamao Café Italiano.

Fifth Avenue extends over the Indian River making access to malls, hospitals and other commercial businesses only a few minutes away.

Melbourne Beach

Founded in 1883, Melbourne Beach is Brevard County’s oldest beach community. Colorful townhomes, single-family homes and condos are set in tropical surroundings. Along Riverside Drive many of Melbourne Beach’s most elegant homes grace the Indian River. A number of historic buildings add charm to the town including the Ryckman House, the City Pier and the Community Chapel.

Outdoor recreation in Melbourne Beach includes riverside Ryckman Park playground and tennis facility and Spessard Holland Golf Course.
The Indian River creates a perfect opportunity for nature lovers to explore all the river has to offer. Dolphins and manatees can often be found feeding and playing close to shore. A unique wonder of nature in Melbourne Beach and surrounding beaches is the laying and hatching of sea turtle eggs.

Melbourne Beach is home to the Society for the Preservation of Sea Turtles, an organization committed to educating residents and visitors and ultimately, protecting sea turtles.

Merritt Island

Located between the Indian and Banana Rivers, Merritt Island is a community full of natural wonder. Included among the many parks in Merritt Island is the Ulumay Wildlife Sanctuary. This sanctuary is nestled along Sykes Creek which has a walking trail, access for canoeing and boating and a tower for bird watching.

Manatee Cover features manatees, bottlenose dolphins and a myriad of other frolicking wildlife. When not exploring the wonders of nature, Merritt Island residents shop, dine and play in the heart of the city.
The Merritt Island Mall has staple retail stores, several surrounding restaurants and a state-of-the-art movie theater. Boating, fishing, and kayaking are just some of the water activities residents can easily enjoy.

With all Merritt Island has to offer, residents need not leave the island. But a quick drive over the Banana River leads to Cocoa Beach and the blue waters of the Atlantic.

MAINLAND COMMUNITIES

Brevard County has seventeen unique mainland communities. From rural Mims to vibrant Viera the Space Coast has a community for everyone. All the mainland communities’ border or are just a few miles from the sparkling Banana and Indian Rivers. And when the ocean breezes tease (and they always do), the Atlantic Ocean is only a few minutes away from any spot on the Space Coast.
These mainland communities are growing and thriving all while maintaining their beauty in this ideal tropical setting. Pleasant weather, nature’s tropical splendor and desirable family communities are some of the treasures that make Brevard’s mainland communities a great place to live.

Mims

The northmost city in Brevard, Mims is a rural community with heart. Featuring acres of farm land and horse ranches, you can escape to the country yet be minutes from the city and beaches.

Mims is primarily residential and most residents find that this area meshes with Titusville often.
There are several beautiful features in this part of town including access to the Canaveral Sea Shore, Ever After Farms, and Sledd’s U-Pick Farm.

The farm land in Mims not only provides to the farmers but offers local produce throughout the county. The country land and beachside lifestyle is one you will love!

Titusville

Titusville was built around the Kennedy Space Center and quickly expanded. This community features gorgeous riverside condos, golf course communities, and an affordable lifestyle.

Local shopping is all around and a brand new mall, Titus Landing, and a state-of-the-art medical plaza was recently added. With easy access to the beach and Orlando, you get the best of both worlds.
Titusville has a revitalized downtown area with fantastic parades, bars and breweries and small town dining. Very few commercial restaurants reside in Titusville, allowing you to truly be a local.

When rocket launches occur, hundreds flock to Titusville for the best views in the county. You can even feel the ground shake!

Port St. John

Port. St John is a fantastic residential area that makes up the northernmost part of Cocoa. With easy access to the Indian River, I-95 to Orlando and the 407 to Kennedy Space Center, this area is truly centrally located.

From US 1, you can see the impressive Vehicle Assembly Building and beautiful sunsets over the Indian River.
This area has expanded rapidly and has fantastic local coffee shops, medical plazas, and parks! You get the small hometown feel in this quaint community. With dog parks and riverside parks, you can enjoy the outdoors or spend your time at the sports complex for Saturday baseball games.

This area is relatively new and is still building new homes too!

Cocoa

Cocoa has long been admired for its historic downtown village and stately mansions along Riverside Drive. Now luxury condominiums with breathtaking views of the Indian River add sophistication and drama to this very diverse city.

Cocoa remains a mostly residential community with many new homes, shopping centers and eateries. Riverside Park is one of the newer gems in Cocoa.
Located in Historic Cocoa Village, the park has a boardwalk along the river, a playground and an outdoor amphitheater where local bands frequently perform.

Also located in Cocoa Village are the Cocoa Village Playhouse, antique stores, fine dining establishments and specialty boutiques. Other events held throughout the year include several art and craft fairs, car shows and Sip & Strolls.

Rockledge

Rockledge is a peaceful town located in the center of Brevard County. Like Cocoa, its eastern edge gracefully curves along the Indian River.

The town’s first homes, many restored to their original beauty, and the Rockledge Presbyterian church face the rocky edge of the river (hence the town’s name).
Rockledge Regional Medical Center provides full service medical care for residents of Rockledge and surrounding areas. Rockledge Country Club has an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts and a clubhouse.

McClarty Park is a favorite spot for kids and adults interested in dance, softball, art classes and other recreational activities.

Viera

Viera is Brevard’s newest community and many are flocking to this beautiful park-like community where master-planned properties feature parks, tennis courts and lake views. Residential areas are adorned with tree-lined streets, sparkling lakes and golf course views.

In addition to its beauty, Viera is the nerve center of Brevard County with the Brevard Board of County Commissioners, the Brevard County School Board and the Moore Justice Center Courthouse.
Viera also has the finest shopping on the Space Coast. The Avenue Viera is a 415,000 square foot outdoor shopping experience adorned with playful statues, tranquil water fountains and soothing music throughout.

The Brevard Zoo is right off I-95 in Viera and has over 550 animals representing species from North America, South America, Australia and Africa.

Suntree

Suntree’s easy access to I-95 and its many lovely neighborhoods make it a perfect community for commuters. Orlando is only an hour drive west.

The Suntree Country Club has an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, a swimming pool and lovely dining area and ballroom for special occasions.
Housing in Suntree consists of mainly single-family homes and multi-family courtyard homes. Suntree neighborhoods are well planned and many have lake and golf course views, parks and playgrounds close by.

The lines between Viera and Suntree often blur as these two planned communities have similar qualities and residents who enjoy the same lifestyle and activities.

Palm Shores

A lovely location, between Suntree and Melbourne along US 1 and the Indian River, many like Palm Shore’s easy access to larger cities while enjoying the advantages of a small town.

Located east of the train tracks, this small town is one you can quickly drive past!
Featuring brand new homes and older restored homes along the river, there is something for everyone! This area is incredibly close to the Pineda Causeway, making it a quick drive to Satellite Beach and Patrick Air Force Base.

Popular restaurants like Pineda Crossings, Cabana Shores, and Palm Shores Bistro are local favorites. With convenience like this, you’ll be pleased!

Melbourne

Melbourne is an excellent choice when looking for a quiet neighborhood, the perfect employer, quality schools and exceptional arts and entertainment. Choices in higher education in Melbourne are abundant and include Florida Institute of Technology, Warner Southern College, Florida Metropolitan University, Keiser College and Eastern Florida State College.

Melbourne is well-known for its many high-tech companies including L3Harris Corporation, Northrup Grumman and AuthenTec Corporation.
The arts community in Melbourne is as alive and creative as ever. Residents routinely enjoy the many art galleries, theaters and concert halls in Melbourne including The King Center for Performing Arts, The Henegar Center and The Brevard Museum of Art and Science.

The annual Melbourne Art Festival is held on the last full weekend April at Wickham Park and includes a juried art show, a 5k run and daily entertainment. Melbourne’s downtown area has been fully revitalized and is truly a special place to shop, dine and enjoy the company of friends.

West Melbourne

West Melbourne features a mix of larger lot homes that have a quiet country feel and planned communities close to A rated schools. The growth in West Melbourne, however, has been anything but laid back.

Wickham Road, West Melbourne’s busiest area has added brightly colored shopping centers filled with eateries, retail shops, and grocery stores.
West Melbourne also has its own public library and Post Office. The Melbourne Square Mall is located on New Haven Avenue and includes Dillard’s, Macy’s, JC Penney, Victoria’s Secret and other popular retailers.

Nature enthusiasts enjoy beautiful Erna Nixon Park and its three unique ecosystems. A raised boardwalk lets visitors walk among the many species of plants and small animals.

Melbourne Village

Melbourne Village is a wooded community of 324 unique homes and a police department. This unique community is hidden away but only minutes from Melbourne shopping and dining.

Melbourne Village is only .06 square miles and is a nature lover’s dream with larger lots and close proximity to shopping, dining, and travel.
Bordering the east side of the area is Erna Nixon Park, bringing hikers to its wonderous walking trails.

This exclusive home sight is truly a tucked away gem and offers a tranquil residence.

Palm Bay

With over 100,000 residents, Palm Bay is by far the largest city on the Space Coast. Young families (the median age is 38) choose Palm Bay as their home for many reasons, and with 98 square miles of land, there is plenty of room to roam. There are over a dozen parks and boat ramps in Palm Bay and the city sponsors special events for residents all through the year.
Newcomers to the area will be pleased to discover that Palm Bay has a number of excellent employers. L3Harris Corporation operates two of its divisions in Palm Bay and Intersil and Raytheon also have large divisions in Palm Bay.

Eastern Florida State College has a campus in Palm Bay which features an advanced biotech science lab. With all its growth and development, Palm Bay still has nature’s charm, and Turkey Creek is Palm Bay’s beauty. A 130-acre sanctuary on the east side of Palm Bay, Turkey Creek is a stream that feeds into the Indian River Lagoon. Visitors to Turkey Creek can canoe, kayak and walk the trails while enjoying the hardwood trees and gentle manatees.

Malabar

Malabar is a small town on Brevard’s mainland. Just over 2,800 people live in Malabar, which runs along U.S. 1 and the Indian River.

Large lots on one acre or more make up most of the housing in a rural setting affording the peaceful lot that residents love.
While this area is almost completely residential, some of Brevard County locals favorite restaurants are in Malabar, including Yellow Dog Café.

On the North side of Malabar is Turkey Creek Sanctuary where over 130 acres of protected land is home to Florida critters and attracts nature enthusiasts with walking, hiking, and biking trails.

Grant-Valkaria

On July 25, 2006 the neighboring towns of Grant and Valkaria joined together. Highlights of the newly incorporated Grant-Valkaria community are the Grant Seafood Festival (www.grantseafoodfestival.com) held the 1st weekend in March.

Run entirely by volunteers this festival had its 50th annual event in 2016 and all proceeds are put back into the community.
The projects include a Scholarship Fund, the Grant Library, and the Grant Historical House. Another highlight is the Habitat at Valkaria, a 6,836 yard championship golf course that weaves and rolls through wetlands and scrub jay habitats, and the Valkaria airport.

Many of the Grant-Valkaria area homes are newer communities offering homeowners large homes and lots.

Barefoot Bay/ Snug Harbor

Barefoot Bay and Snug Harbor are tranquil communities in the city of Micco just a few steps from the Indian River. Area residents enjoy a relaxed Florida lifestyle.

Both communities feature planned activities and outings for residents. Barefoot Bay has it’s own private general store, a community center for games and golfing, and a private fishing dock.
Throughout Barefoot Bay, there are 3 pools for residents to enjoy after a day on the golf course. Snug Harbor also offers a clubhouse and a community pool.

Most of the homes in this area are manufactured homes and the porches and Florida rooms are perfect for enjoying the community. Snug Harbor is a 55+ only Community but Barefoot Bay is for all ages.

Micco

Micco is south of Grant-Valkaria and is the southmost part of Brevard County, bordering Sebastian and Indian River County.

Boating and fishing enthusiasts enjoy Micco’s many fishing piers, boat ramps, marine facilities and the close proximity to the Sebastian Inlet.
Mostly retirees make their home in this economical and quiet community. Respect for natural Florida preservation is alive and well here as the Micco Scrub Sanctuary protects over 1300 acres of wetlands and flatwoods.

The sanctuary provides family fun with biking trails and horseback riding.
